Specific examples of analyses and design used in the creation of new interfaces can be found in the design section, including examples of mobile devices, automotive displays, and runway incursion warning systems.
Information regarding my research background can be found in the research section. This section details various research projects that I have been involved in, as well as a few current projects in the lab. Much of my funded research has been in aviation; more recently, I have been investigating several issues in the gaming domain.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Carl F. Smith, M.A. is a Human Factors professional specializing in the design and evaluation of human-machine interfaces. Carl has designed mobile device interfaces for Motorola, developed in-vehicle information system specifications for a major automotive manufacturer, and developed several proof-of-concept interfaces showing how improving device interactions can improve user experience. Carl is currently completing his PhD in GMU’s Human Factors and Applied Cognition Program, and anticipates graduating in Summer 2007. Carl can be reached via email at mac.smith@gmail.com.
